Primal Leaf

Remember why you created something for the first time: to let yourself be guided by the mysterious energy of curiosity, to be in awe of every discovery, to see what you are capable of, and to expand your horizon of possibilities.

You create for the joy of it.

Third Wind Chime

MUSIBATTY
We don’t want to live a frivolous life, we don’t want to live a superficial life. We want to be serious with each other, with our friends, with our work. That doesn’t necessarily mean gloomy or grim, but seriousness... is something that we are deeply hungry for, to take ourselves seriously and to be able to enjoy the nourishment of seriousness, that gravity, that weight.
— Leonard Cohen

In this week's series, I will continue to explore chiseled textures, now inspired by one of my favorite pieces I've made: the Four Seasons lariat necklace.

I love its movement and the beautiful sound it creates when I wear it.

I recently met a woman writer who told me that there are several ways to craft a story.

One, is to make an outline and plan each chapter in a linear progression. The other, is to craft it like a quilt.

To do this, you first do your research on the subject you want to write about. Then, start writing piece by piece in the order that comes to you. When you are done, the story will emerge out of what you have written.

Topography III

I just realized that I literally get to design my own life. It is up to me to imagine, feel, and walk every step towards what I want to create.

Otherwise, I'm choosing lethargy, apathy and victimhood.

I prefer to move forward.

When I say artist I mean the (wo)man who is building things - creating molding the earth - whether it be the plains of the west - or the iron ore of Penn. It’s all a big game of construction - some with a brush - some with a shovel - some choose a pen.

My new apartment is the fanciest place I’ve ever lived in. The next door neighbor owns two Mercedes, which he keeps in the basement parking lot. He spends most of the day in one of them, listening to the radio.

I tell my mom, “the people in my building might have lots of money, but they seem sad and lonely. The guy next door, owns an apartment three times the size of the one I rent, and he sits in his car all day.”

When I finally get to meet him I say, “hi, I’m your new neighbor,” to which he replies, “hi, I’m your neighbor’s chauffeur.”
